What is Interim Ministry?
Beginning in the summer of 2008, UUVB entered a period of transition, as we are
taking time to be intentional about calling our next settled minister. In this Interim time, we are led by Interim
Minister, the Rev. Dr. Maureen Killoran. (Learn more about Rev. Maureen here.)
Research shows
that there are several developmental tasks that correlate with a successful new chapter in called
ministry. These six “tasks” form a framework within which our work together as interim
minister and congregation will unfold.
- Coming to terms with your fellowship’s history, and acknowledging and dealing with your griefs and conflicts.
- Identifying and claiming UUFVB’s unique identity and strengths, your needs and your challenges.
- Deepening your understanding of the appropriate leadership roles of the minister, staff and lay leaders,
and navigating the shifts of leadership that often accompany times of transition.
- Making appropriate use of wider resources – the Florida District, the Unitarian Universalist
Association, and other, non-UU resources.
- Reaching beyond the dominant culture to include the multicultural world in social service and social justice, and
- Renewing your vision, strengthening your stewardship and doing what is necessary to be ready for new
growth and new professional leadership.
On Sunday, September 7,
2008, a Covenant between the UUFVB and the Interim Minister was read and
mutually accepted. To read the Covenant, click here.
