Director of Lifespan Religious Education
Claudia Jiménez was born in Bogotá, Colombia, moved as a child to New York and became a citizen during her senior year of high school. She obtained a B.A. from Cornell University in biology and Spanish literature and a B. Ed. from Queen’s University, Ontario. She has ten years teaching experience in middle school science, second and fifth grade and English at all grade levels in bilingual schools in Colombia, Brazil, in Canada as a student teacher, and in Florida at schools in Orlando and Vero Beach.
Claudia is the Director of Religious Education at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach. She has an extensive record of community involvement and service:
• Current member, steering committee of the HIV/Aids Network;
• Current member, steering committee of Connected For Kids;
• Current member, Board of Directors, Redlands Christian Migrant Association;
• Served for 6 years as member, vice president and then president of the board of the Healthy Start Coalition;
• Member of the PTSA at Beachland Elementary, Gifford Middle School and VBHS when her daughters were students at these schools
Claudia is married to Stephen Lapointe, a research scientist, with whom she has two daughters who recently graduated from Vero Beach High School (Class of 2010, 2011) and are currently attending Cornell University.
