Homeless Family Center

Frequently Asked Questions

[Jump to:  Family Center Home]

  • The HFC is located at 720 4th Street; less than 1 block east of the intersection of Old Dixie.  West of Rte 1, over the railroad tracks, across from Parks Rentals and next to the Mobil station on the north side of the street.  It is a peach building with a screened in porch. Lost? Call the office at 778-5880 or the HFC at 567-5537.
  • Park in the lot, enter the screen porch, and ring the bell next to the door.  Someone will greet you, please tell them that you are from the UUFVB with a part of tonight’s meal.  Unloading assistance is always gladly offered!
  • Meals are to be delivered to the Homeless Family Center on a different date each month, but at the same times: weekdays before 4 p.m., weekends before 1 p.m.  Other drop off arrangements can be made with Liz or Anne, if necessary.
  • Food needs to be prepared before drop off, that means:
    • lasagnas fully cooked (wrap in a towel to keep warm)
    • salads fixings can be sliced and placed in baggies – the center will put everything in one of their bowls. Or you can make the salad and put in a disposable pan/bowl. Keep dressing separate.
    • side dishes and desserts delivered in a disposable pan.
    • side dish ideas (if not specified on sign up sheet): green beans, corn on or off the cob, baked beans
    • dessert ideas (if not specified on sign up sheet): cookies, cake, ice cream, anything chocolate!
  • Donations:
    • Money is always accepted!  You can put cash in an envelope or a check in the basket on Sundays, be sure it is marked “For HFC”.
    • Toiletries: those often used items of toothpaste, toothbrushes, soaps, etc. – a blue bin is located under the sign up sheet table and is marked “toiletries for the HFC”.  Please only leave toiletries in this bin.
    • If you want to donate other items to the HFC, please check with Liz first.  Space is at a premium at the center, I will see if they can accept your donation and contact you with further details.  Donations can always be dropped off at the Indian River Thrift Shop, located at 1246 16th Street.  The center has arrangements with the shop, and donations are sold by the Thrift Store, with the proceeds going towards the HFC’s account.  Just ask for Barbara Lewis at the thrift shop, let her know you donation is to benefit the HFC.
