LREflections August, 2010

     The summer program “Signs & Songs” has been well attended this summer.  The children will be singing and signing the hymn “This Little Light of Mine” during service on August 8.  A special thank you to Elizabeth Borne and Faye Sheppard who led the children in singing during class.  The children also enjoyed using the bells to play simple tunes such as “Row, Row, Row your boat.”  Thanks again, to Elizabeth for suggesting we purchase bells for the children.  We’ve had fun being musical on Sundays, and learning sign language in the process.  It wouldn’t have happened if parents hadn’t been willing to have a conversation about how to keep our children engaged during the summer months.  Thank you, parents!

     This month parents and teachers will receive the annual welcome letter which includes this year’s registration form, curriculum information and dates when teachers are needed.  Please complete the registration form, return it ASAP, and consider helping out in the classroom.  The August 14 Teacher Training Workshop will prepare you to be a part of our Sunday morning ministry.  A colleague once shared this quote with me: “To teach is to touch the life of a child. To teach religious education is to touch the heart of a community.”  I hope that some of you, regardless of whether or not you have children in our programs, consider touching the heart of our community by working with our children.  We are embracing a new ministerial vision and a new page in our congregational life as we welcome Rev. Scott to UUFVB this month.  There is a tremendous potential for attracting new families… join us in nurturing those families who are with us, and preparing for those families yet to come.
