Timeline Adopted for Ministerial Search
The UUFVB Ministerial Search Committee has established a general timeline for
primary steps in the search. Members of the congregation will be included in a
survey and in small group meetings, and may be asked to contribute data for
certain documents.
July/August 2009. The search committee sends a survey to all members and friends
to solicit ideas on the traits a new minister should possess. Small group
meetings are also conducted to obtain feedback. All results are then analyzed by
the committee.
September 2009. The UUFVB Board of Directors adopts a proposed ministerial
agreement that outlines parameters, including salary, of a potential contract
for the minister.
October 31, 2009. Congregational Record is unveiled on the UUA website for
viewing by potential candidates. This record is a standard form that summarizes
information about the congregation including its history, membership statistics,
finances, organizational structure, current congregational life, and ministerial
skills most needed by the congregation.
October 31, 2009. Congregational packet that promotes the Fellowship and the
region is ready to be sent to potential candidates. This packet includes a
proposed letter of agreement between the congregation and potential minister.
November and December 2009. Potential candidates search the UUA website to learn
of congregations in search of a minister. They post a Ministerial Record
outlining their backgrounds. The Transitions Office of UUA forwards to the UUFVB
search committee packets of interested ministers and these packets are reviewed
by each member of the search committee.
November 8, 2009. A Beyond Categorical Thinking workshop is presented to the
congregation.
January and February 2010. Precandidates are interviewed by telephone, materials
are exchanged, the search committee invites three or four precandidates to
preach in a neutral pulpit.
March 2010. A final candidate is selected by the search committee. Reference and
criminal checks are conducted.
April 2010. A candidating week is designated at UUFVB during which the final
candidate recommended by the search committee visits Vero Beach, preaches two
sermons, and meets with as many members as possible. Terms of the letter of
agreement are negotiated between the negotiating team, the prospective minister
and approved by the board of trustees. At the end of that week the congregation
votes whether to call the candidate to be its next settled minister.
September 2010. New settled minister assumes responsibilities at UUFVB.
